RailsCasts.com : learning Ruby On Rails

It’s not a secret for anyone, I am using Ruby On Rails to create Notifixio.us . This is actually the first time I use Ruby On Rails. I won’t discuss the pros and cons of RoR, but, for me, it was the most intesting approach!

The fact is that, despite I’m a CS major, It’s been quite afew years that I had not done any coding, and I barely ever heard of Ruby. So, first, I bought a good book -well, 2 actually, but the second was useless-, then, I read tutorials on the net -the Rails community is very active- and then, third, I subscribed to many screencasts, among which -and the best, to me- : RailsCast.com

Each episode lasts between 3 and 6 minutes and explores -briefly, but smartly- a specific topic, with, most of the time, very interesting tips! I just love the format : the screen, and the voice. I also find their business model very interesting, and I am sure that anyone with Ryan’s knowldge and passion could make a little money out of such a podcast!

You know what ? When I’ll be recruiting -soon, hopefully!- instead of posting an ad, I might even try to sponsor a few episodes of RailsCasts, because I’ll be certain that the candidates will have had at least one good Rails teacher!
