Join us (me!)
It’s not a scoop to say that I am trying to build a new startup, here in San Francisco. Contrary to my previous venture, Jobetudiant.net, I do not want to be alone on this one. The main reason being that it’s going to be BIG! Anyway, for now, I am looking for a CTO who will be co-founder of the Company, with me. Yes, it means that we will share equity… and that you’re not going to be paid zillions in the first few months.
Profile
You will be an very advanced Ruby On Rails developer, and specially with strong AJAX skills (Prototype, Scriptaculous…). You will also have a good knowledge of MySQL, and feel confident at deploying and administrating Rails applications on Linux based servers, hosted with Amazon EC2. Additionally you should be able to set-up a multi-tier architecture! Ideally you would also have competencies related to Jabber, API development, SEO, web-design…
On the more “personnal” side, I need you to be very motivated by your work in general, and by the project specifically: be ready to sacrifice a few nights! Of course, you also have to be entrepreneur-minded, which means that you will make decisions on your own and be “market” oriented : the good solution for you is always the one that satisfies the customer now and tomorrow (not either today or tomorrow)! Please tell me also that you know what creating a business is! Ha… I would also need you to be either American or Green card and based, here, in the Bay Area! I don’t want you to leave your day job for this… at least for now, because the project really needs a strong commitment, and, well, who can concentrate hard if hungry? Let’s enjoy our warm nests until we raise funds!
What I have to offer
My “new project” doesn’t have a name yet… but if you come in very early, your help will be greatly appreciated to find one! I already developed myself a pre-greek-alphabet version of the service, hosted at EC2 and I am using it daily : the first core of functionalities is there! I really can’t tell what it does on this blog until we have at least a private beta to show, but hopefully it’ll be released in January. Of course, if we happen to physically meet, even this afternoon, I could tell you all the story! I really think that the project is very promising -you knew that!- and I am sure we can raise some funds within 6 to 12 months.
The team is currently made of … me, but I have a “strong advisory” board of friends and family pushing me! I am 25, I’m French and I’ve been living, here in San Francisco for one year, working for a French bank as an expatriate. I’ve previously founded a company in France, Jobetudiant.net, which happens to be the leading website for student’s jobs (waiter, summer jobs…). The company has been profitable from day 1 and has now 2 part-time employees. It’s small, nothing to do with what I want to build here, but at least, it’s my first Company! I have both a technical background (MS of Science) and a finance/business background and I also have a significant experience in Venture Capital, which gives me a relative confidence on what the challenges are here!
