@Guidu80 : on se connaissait bien avant Internet... peut-etre même avant Pyramide! Ce qui explique que je ne me souvienne plus des règles :(

RSS : is it over?

One of my favorite french bloggers, Eric -from La Croix Rousse, not from Lyon ;p- thinks that Feeds will never get any attention from the public : I totally agree and I think that it is actually a good thing. RSS (and/or atom) is a technology… nothing like a product, and “the rest of us” care about products, not technologies.

Despite the fact that more and more web browsers (Safari, IE 7.0, Opera…) are integrating a feed reader, I am convinced that RSS will never be broadly used as-is. However, my deep feeling is that we (entrepreneurs) still have not built enough products and services that are exploiting RSS as much as they could and should.

If you give a look to the right column of this blog, you can choose to subscribe to the RSS feed of this blog, but also receive by email any new article. Guess what, even if my blog is not very famous, and even if its readers are mainly tech-aware, I have more subscribers by emails than by RSS. The most interesting part is that the email subscription system is actually based on the RSS feed!

Bear with me, my next start-up will definitely focus on a better integration and usage of RSS feed… transparently for the user.
